National Civil Rights Museum

National Civil Rights Museum 2015-04-11 3

Images from the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. It is a powerful experience. Many of the displays are made of sculpture of the people who lived the struggle, set in photographs of the actual events.

I was a teenager during most of the events depicted here. My memories are hazy.

So very moving. These events didn't take place so long ago... it's hard for me to fathom that people could have been treated so poorly based on the color of their skin. Although we have come a long way, there is still a ways to go.

I was about 13, living in an all-white area, attending an all-white school. I confess, I didn't pay any real attention to it as it was happening. I didn't give it any serious thought until I was much older and in college.

Quite dignified, as you would expect.

Indeed moving, and definitely I would not miss it if I found myself nearby.

Been there. An experience both stirring and depressing.
